Contents Insurance


Insuring your household contents

We strongly advise all tenants to take out contents insurance.

You can do this either by making your own private arrangements or through a scheme provided by Basildon Council with AVIVA (formerly Norwich Union) solely for St Georges Community Housing tenants.

Many people believe that their landlord insures personal belongings against theft, fire, vandalism or burst pipes, but this is not the case and unfortunately many people find this out after the damage has been done.

St Georges and Basildon Council have made it easy for you to insure your belongings with Norwich Union, a major insurance company.

How the Insurance Scheme works

Your application will be considered by Basildon Council's Insurance Team who will contact you direct.

The cost of insurance is payable weekly and premiums are paid with your rent.

To make sure that you are always covered you must keep up to date with your payments and if you don't pay your insurance premium for six weeks your insurance may be cancelled.
