Moving Out
Giving Notice
You need to give us 28 days written notice to end your tenancy as stated in your tenancy agreement.
Your written notice can be posted, or delivered in person, to your local Area Housing Office.
If you need assistance with ending your tenancy, staff at our local Area Housing Offices will be pleased to help you.
Moving Out Checklist
When you contact us you will be given a "Moving Out Checklist" which will give you details of what to do to make your home move go smoothly.
Keys
All your keys must be returned to us including front door keys, communal entry door keys, garage and storage shed keys.
You will be given a receipt when you return the keys and if any keys are not returned we will re-charge you the cost of changing any locks.
Condition of Property
Your home must be left in a clean and clear condition, ensuring all items are cleared. i.e. carpets, laminated flooring, external bin cupboards, shed and garden clearance.
It is also important to clear any items stored in your loft.
Security of Property
Please make sure that your home is left secure and all windows and doors are locked.
If the lock is faulty, please report it online or at any Local Area Housing Office before moving.
Repairs or Alterations
Please ensure that any repairs that are our responsibility have been reported.
If the condition of the property is not acceptable we may carry out repair work which will be re-charged to you.
Disconnecting water, gas and electricity services
Shortly before you move you need to contact the service companies and provide meter readings where necessary.
We advise you to take meter readings on the day that you move and keep a record of these for future reference.
You will also find some useful information on moving home on Basildon Council's "Moving to Basildon" webpage .
and finally...
We hope you will be happy in your new home.
