LINK RADIO INTERVIEW WITH ST GEORGES IT MANAGER.

During September our IT Manager John Hart, recorded an interview
to be broadcast on the Link Radio service which has already been installed at one St Georges sheltered housing complex.

Link Radio is a community radio channel which is broadcast to sheltered housing residents across south east Essex.

The Link Radio signal is broadcast through sheltered housing residents’ TV sets, and listeners receive a selection of music and programmes especially tailored to the mature audience.

An important extra feature of the Link Radio broadcast is its ability to enable St Georges Sheltered Scheme Co-ordinators to post messages and information onto the listeners TV screens.

Link Radio messaging like this will provide scheme co-ordinators with a quick and easy way to keep sheltered housing residents up to date with latest news and developments.

We are now looking forward to making Link Radio available to all our sheltered housing residents free of charge over the coming year.

PROMOTES SILVER SURFERS DAY - FRIDAY 25TH MAY 2007

National Silver Surfers day was Friday, 25 May 2007 and St Georges Community Housing certainly rose to the challenge by giving 32 visitors the opportunity to become silver surfers.

St Georges Community Housing staff brought the project together where sheltered scheme residents were given the opportunity to visit Somercotes Court and Eliot Close schemes for taster sessions on the world wide web.

On the day staff from St Georges Community Housing and volunteers from the Tenants Resource Centre were on hand to show residents how to use a laptop computer, try out shopping and ordering services on-line as well as contacting friends and relatives on the web.

Sandra Hillier, Vice-Chair of St Georges Management Board said that the day was a great success and was extremely pleased at how much sheltered residents had obviously enjoyed their experience.

Following his experience of surfing John Dwyer said the session was well worth the time spent! John is trying to get a computer and connected to the internet so that he can keep on top of developments at SGCH and do some research on his family history. He has booked a computer course and is hoping to use the internet to book flights.

Anne Lear said that the session was really useful in finding out how computers and the Internet work. Just before silver surfers day Anne’s daughter gave her an old laptop and she is now looking at getting connected to the internet which she will use to research her family history and shop online. Anne’s daughter and granddaughter are going to help her explore the internet.
