Health and Safety
St Georges Community Housing is committed to health and safety at work and that of its customers.
Our aim is to take all appropriate and reasonable steps to ensure that we conduct our business in such a way that staff and other people who may be affected by activities are not exposed to risks to their health and safety.
We accept that effective health and safety management can contribute positively towards business performance by reducing injuries, ill health and absence as well as loss, damage and liabilities.
We also accepts that accidents, near misses and ill health may stem from organisational failings and therefore the senior management team are committed to taking pro-active steps to continuously improve and maintain the health and safety management system and ensure its implementation.
To ensure success we will:-
- Meet, and where possible go beyond, legal requirements.
- Provide suitable and sufficient information, instruction, training and supervision to its staff so as to ensure their health and safety.
- Control workplace hazards, by assessing risks and establishing risk control measures to eliminate or reduce the risk to staff and all other persons.
- Provide and maintain a safe place of work and safe plant and equipment.
- Ensure all staff are aware of their legal duties, and encourage their support.
- Promote individual responsibility in relation to health and safety.
- Recognise the value of involving staff and other stakeholders in formation of policy and development of working practices and therefore promote consultation on these matters.
- Pursue progressive improvements in health and safety performance.
- Actively monitor and review health and safety performance.
Health and Safety of our Staff
We will not tolerate abusive behaviour against any member of staff.
Our employees have the right to work in a safe environment.
If a customer is abusive towards staff this will result in them being banned from visiting our offices and where appropriate this will be enforced by the police.
We will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone who is abusive towards members of staff.
Responsibility for health and safety
The interim St Georges Chief Executive has overall responsibility for health and safety.
