Youngsters to see their art displayed on dustcarts

Five primary school youngsters are celebrating after winning a district-wide competition, organised by SGCH Community Wardens and Basildon Council, to design a recycling poster for the Council's recycling service.

More than 125 pupils entered the challenge to create a slogan completing the sentence “Recycling is important because…”, together with artwork to support their message.

The lucky winners will see their name and entry splashed across the side of a council refuse freighter for six months.

Winners also receive a recycling goody bag and a certificate to commemorate their achievements.

Councillor Terri Sargent, Basildon Council’s cabinet member for environment, said:

“I’d like to thank all the children who entered the competition. The standard was very high and it was hard to pick five winners.

“We were delighted by the interest they showed in the competition and their enthusiasm to help promote recycling.

“We hope this has encouraged them to think about the environment and get into the habit of recycling.”
