Who Careline can help...
Many people make the mistake of thinking that the Basildon Careline Alarm Service is just for the elderly, but that is not the case.
The age range of people using our service is almost as wide as the variety of reasons for using Careline. Our clients' ages range from 15 to 104 years of age.

Careline for the elderly and disabled.
No one likes to feel vulnerable, especially in their own home, but for those who are elderly, disabled, or ill, it is a daily reality.
Careline is a practical way of keeping help close at hand and knowing that help is available brings reassurance and peace of mind.
For some people it means that they are able to stay in their homes for as long as they want to or take part in activities they might not have felt able to before.
If you ask Careline users what the alarm gives them, most will tell you that it gives them reassurance and makes them feel secure, confident and able to live at home independently.
Careline for people who are prone to falls.
We can offer a Fall Detector to people who are at risk of falling.
What is a Fall Detector?
The fall detector can detect when the wearer has had a fall and triggers a call for help through to the Careline Control Centre.
The device is very small and is light enough to be worn discreetly, on a belt or in a waist pouch.
How does it work?
The Fall Detector uses a two-stage detectior to identify a fall.
First a trip switch is triggered. The alarm then waits for fifteen seconds in case it has been activated by mistake.
If after fifteen seconds it has not been returned to an upright position it will send a call through to Careline's Control Centre.
Why is it needed?
About one-third of the UK's 12 million retired population experience at least one fall every year.
Because of this many elderly people live in fear of falling because of the risk of serious injury or death.
The Fall Detector can help overcome this fear and encourage people to live a more active life.
The Fall Detector provides additional reassurance and protection in, and around the home for the elderly and others at risk from falling, such as people who suffer from epilepsy.

Careline for victims of domestic violence.
The Careline Domestic Violence Scheme is an initiative to help people who suffer violence in the home, set up in partnership between Basildon Domestic Violence Panel, St. Georges Community Housing, Basildon District Council, Careline and Essex Police.
Careline installs alarms into the homes of people at risk of domestic violence.
The alarms, come with a remote pendant, which has a range of approximately 200 feet, so it can be operated from anywhere in the home or garden.
Once the alarm is activated the Careline operator will recognise the call as a domestic violence incident and will immediately contact the Police so that officers can attend.
All calls are recorded and can be used as evidence in court cases.
Referrals to the scheme are made through Victim Support  , St. Georges Community Housing, Social Services, Basildon Council, the Police and the local Women’s Refuge .
Careline for victims of racial harassment and neighbour disputes
As with domestic violence alarms, Basildon Careline can install alarms for people suffering from abuse or intimidation from neighbours, or racial harassment.
Upon receiving a call, Careline will immediately contact the Police so that officers can attend the scene. All calls are recorded and can be used as evidence in court cases.
Referrals for racial harassment or neighbourhood dispute alarms are made through the St. Georges Community Housing Area Offices and the Anti-social Behaviour Team
